The National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), formerly known as the Taiwan Provincial Teachers College, was founded in 1946 as a training base for outstanding secondary education teachers. As it strives to maintain the highest standards for the preparation of teachers and intellectuals, it transformed itself into a National University in 1967. With the enactment of the Teacher Preparation Law in 1994 which mandated more teacher trainings for schools, NTNU emerged to a comprehensive university through the expansions of faculty members, student enrollments and academic departments. In addition, the university started to provide opportunities for internships and studying abroad, to enlarge the international student enrollment rates and to build exchange programs with internationally recognized sister institutions from around the world. Through this active international cooperation, it helps to broaden students’ world views and academic horizons by crossing academic and geographical boundaries in their pursuit of knowledge.  NTNU is now one of the elite national institutions for higher education in Taiwan that is dedicated to excellence in both teaching and researching.

NTNU is composed of three campuses: Main, Gongguan and Linkou campuses. Both the Main and Gongguan campuses are located in the heart of the Taipei city that enable students and teachers with great convenience to commute through various choices of public transportations. The university consists of 29 academic departments and 23 graduate institutes divided into 8 distinct colleges. Currently, there are around 70 programs, offered by 40 departments or graduate institutes,  open to international students.
